The Colosseum of Rome, Italy

We toured the Colosseum when I visited Rome, with my family.
It is one of Rome’s famous monuments in the capital of Italy.
It’s an oval Amphitheatre in the center of the city.
The building is a symbol of Rome’s majesty and eternity.

The foundation for the ancient relic was laid in 72 AD.

Eight years later Emperor Titus completed it and it is a must-see.

Rome’s most famous landmark is the Colosseum.

For those visiting the Italian city, it’s a tourist attraction.

The Colosseum sits on the site of a former private lake.

It was an artificial lake at the Golden House of Nero.

After Emperor Nero died, and the eventual destruction of his palace,

The Colosseum, a public building, was built in its place.

The iconic landmark was originally called the Flavian Amphitheatre.

Bloody combats with animals and gladiator fights were popular.

Emperor Commodus staged many fights in the arena.

He relished in those ego-boosting acts in that era.

VATICAN CITY

Vatican City is a microstate in Rome, Italy.

It is a tourist attraction in the Italian city.

It’s home to a trove of iconic art and architecture.

The Vatican Museums house famous ancient Roman sculptures.

My family and I visited Vatican City in 2009.

To get in we had to wait in a very long line.

It was worth the wait to see the beauty within.

Gallery of Tapestries, Sistine Chapel, and Michelangelo’s Mosaic ceiling.

The paintings in the galleries and chapels were spectacular.

Masterpieces by Michelangelo graced every room we entered.

The Magnificent Fresco of the Last Judgement was astounding.

Michelangelo’s Dome and Belvedere Courtyard were amazing.

After Constantine the Great constructed Saint Peter’s Basilica,

The Vatican became the home of the Popes and the Catholic Church Center.

The Holy City for Catholics around the globe,

Is an important archaeological site of the Roman world.
