Poet Mridula Bhattacharjee was born in the city of Silchar in the Assam state of India. She attended school in her village and grew up amidst the lush greenery of her father’s tea garden.
Graduating in the arts department, her enthusiasm for reading various books since childhood inspired her to start writing poetry early on. Her writings reflect the natural beauty and various aspects of social life.
Since 1997, she has been writing for various newspapers and magazines. She is the editor of “Srijoni,” a monthly literary magazine, and “Srijoni Barta,” a monthly newsletter. She has written numerous poems, stories, and essays, as well as a novel. She works as a journalist for a daily newspaper and currently resides in Silchar.

আমি ভালবাসি পৃথিবীর সবুজ আঁচল
ভালোবাসি রাত-দিনের সুন্দর অসুন্দর
চেহারার ভিতরে লুকিয়ে থাকা দীপ্ত আভা।
ভালোবাসি মানুষ মানুষের কলতানে আনন্দ
সোহাগে জড়ানো জীবন,
জীবনের কথা-কাহিনী।
আমি চেয়ে থাকি আকাশের নীচে
হাওয়ায় ভেসে বেড়ানো পাখিদের দিকে
ভালোবাসা জড়ানো
তাদের কিচিরমিচির আওয়াজ,
কোকিলের মধুময় ডাক,
ভোর পাখিদের গান শোনার অপেক্ষায়।

I love the green earth
I love the beauty of day and night
The glow hidden within the face.
I love people,
happy in people’s conversations
Sohag’s life, the story of life.
I look under the sky
To the birds floating in the wind
Their chirping of love,
the sweet call of the cuckoo,
I waiting to hear
the morning birds singing.
