木蓮のもろきしろさや石畳
the fragile whiteness
of magnolias
flagstone

花さきて荒きその枝しづもりぬ
cherry blossoms
Its rough branches
have calmed down

しろがねに川面かがやく春の暁
river surface
shines in silver─
dawn of spring

小鳥来て飛び立つ枝や花散らす
A little bird comes
flies away from the branch─
scatters cherry blossoms


花守や遠くの山の雪崩聴く
person who guards cherry blossoms
listens to the avalanche
of distant mountains

缶詰の白桃なめらか乙鳥
canned white peaches
smooth─
swallow

春雷ののちに雹降る人おろか
spring thunder
followed by hail─
people are stupid

胸苦し帰雁の声聴く別れかな
have a pain in my chest
listen to the returning geese─
farewell
