Methedras is the quintessence of the most direct in your face thrash-death metal style, arriving to define a proper own style made of metal with no compromise nor boundary.
When did you start as a band?
We started back in 1996 and have been active for nearly three decades, with a strong presence in the Italian metal scene and even abroad, without ever losing an ounce of anger and energy.
What is your first musical memory?
Well, this is a nice question, I can recall as first musical memory when I met back in the ‘90s the former guitarist and band co-founder Massi, it was friendship at a glance, we started to talk about all the bands we were following at that time and spent hours in laughing and drinking and dreaming to build up a metal band together, something which then happened for real!
Who are the members of the band?
Andrea Bochi, band founder and bass player, Daniele Colombo, guitarist and music mastermind, Edo Sala, drummer and beat generator, Beppe “Rex” Caruso, singer and lyricist.
Describe to us your career in music to date. Were there any decisive positive or negative influences?
We have never stopped during these years, releasing six albums and touring pretty the whole globe, often supporting big international acts. One of the longevity secrets is to have common goals and the will to work hard in order to achieve ‘em, through the years the band changed a lot but always for the best and keeping that inner flame still alive since the very beginning, challenging ourselves to create the best music we could have ever imagined. Regarding the influences, It’s more about the genres than the bands, we always wanted to mix the thrash metal from the Bay Area, and the melodic death metal from Sweden, but for sure bands like Machine Head, Testament, Soilwork and Carcass positively influenced our songs through the years.
Are you “scared” by success or failure?
Honestly we’re not scared by either success or failure: the first because we think if it came would mean all our efforts and desires are coming to reality; instead in case of failure, we would not care at all, since we know we tried (and are still doing) our hard best in order to make this not happen, we would not feel any remorse, shit sometimes happens simply by the fate.
Tell us a few words about your latest release.
Our latest release is called Human Deception and it’s been a great journey to release it, starting from the first jams in the rehearsals room: this was one of the most important steps, we began to jam even more than the past in the rehearsals room, mixing our ideas and arranging the songs all together to let all of us really into the creative process. All of this gave us the freedom to push our boundaries far than ever, deciding to insert some structured orchestral part, as well as clean vocals and the will to find some more melody to make the album more accessible. The result is what you can listen, and we’re extremely happy about it.
Who edits the lyrics and music?
Rex takes care of all the lyrics and vocal duties, while Dani is the real mastermind behind the riffs, melodies and compositions, supported by the rest of the band of course.
What are your future music plans?
Actually, we’re still promoting the album, thinking to release one more single and spreading the music on socials. In the meanwhile, we are working for the 2025 to arrange some gigs in European festivals and hopefully a tour in the following autumn.
