What is the color variety and the technique with which you participate in this exhibition of PERSISTENT ART in Mykonos? The colors for the painting I did for this exhibit represent the freshness and warmth of this vibrant country. Various shades of blue, white and orange are the most prominent colors I see. Blue and orange are complementary colors on the color wheel. Opposite from each other. The fluidity of the sea against the solid rock is a deeper complementary theme in this work. The sea endlessly meets the earth in an infinite dance.
I chose an up close and personal view of this dance. The elements of duality are at the core of this piece. The feminine and the masculine, yin and yang, the past and the future, night and day.

Can you identify some milestones along the way? I was always creative as a child. Unfortunately growing up in the United States all I ever heard about pursuing a creative career was tied to the phrase “starving artist”. This idea seeped into my skin and settled deep within. I did many other things from flight attendant with Pan Am to owning a fast food gyro restaurant. It wasn’t until I had my twins that I started painting again. They wanted to paint a wall mirror one day in our home and through that act I connected again with that inner child I had pushed aside. I haven’t stopped since then.

Is there a defining moment that led you to become an artist? There is a difference between creatively painting and becoming an artist. Two things happened in my life that nourished the artist in me. First was the experience of painting the wall mirror with my girls and reconnecting to the creative flow that is within us all. The second piece happened some years later when my girls had grown and I was no longer needed as a primary influence on their lives. It was then that I realized I had left so much of my own self malnourished and neglected over the years that I felt I had lost a big part of me. This is the defining moment where I realized that painting was nourishing me in ways I had never imagined possible. This was the moment when I began to take the path of becoming an artist. The deeper I moved down this path the deeper I connected with who I am. The more I connected with my own self the more I developed into an artist.

What inspires you the most and how much are you interested in promoting your work to communicate with the viewer? Visually I am inspired each and every day just looking out my window at this gorgeous country. On a more subtle level what inspires me most is helping others along their creative journey. When we open those long forgotten locked doors within and shine our creative light into the dark room of fear, doubt and guilt then we are able to release the grip these frequencies have on our lives. The more we clear out the junk the more inspired we become. The more we open our inner channel the more connected we become to our creative muse. When this happens inspiration continually flows through us.
It is very important for me to communicate with the viewer. I believe that those who connect with my art connect with me in some way. There is a visual connection, obviously, but I also believe that there is an energetic connection as well. It is my purpose to connect with the viewer, to hold my etherial hand out to them and to give them what they are searching for, if only for a moment or two.

What would you say to the audience that is going to visit you? Clear your mind… Let go of any expectations… And simply breathe…
Being in the present moment is the best way to fully experience art.
